Pizza Scenario in BAALL
The user is in the bedroom at his desk with his wheelchair. He wants to eat a pizza. He tell this to the wheelchair. As a result, the wheelchair drives him to the kitchen. While driving, sliding doors open and close automatically. The kitchenette moves to a height so that the wheelchair can drive under it. In addition, the kitchen cupboard moves downwards so that the user can access everything inside. He gets a plate and asks "where is the pizza?". Consequently, the wheelchair drives him to the fridge. After opening the fridge, the board that contains the pizza is blinking. Afterwards, the user lets the wheelchair drive him to the microwave oven that is also moving down to be accessible. After the pizza is ready, the user asks the wheelchair to drive him to the table. There, the light is automatically switched on, while the light in the kitchenette is switched off.
The video shows the Autonomous Navigation Assistant and its integration in the Bremen Ambient Assisted Living Lab (BAALL). First, the user asks the wheelchair “Please take me to the books”. The wheelchair is autonomously driving there. After the user has taken a cook book off shelf, he asks the wheelchair to take him to the kitchen. While driving there, the electric doors open automatically and the kitchen counter moves to an appropriate height such that the wheelchair fits underneath. Finally the user lowers a kitchen cupboard by pressing a button in the kitchen counter, opens the cupboard, and removes a plate. Afterwards, he decides to move the cupboard back up using a speech command (his hands are full).

The video shows the Autonomous Navigation Assistant together with a dialogue system that allows selecting the navigation route on the fair CeBIT 2009. The user may query information about the exhibitors in hall 9 of CeBIT and define a navigation route. Afterwards, the wheelchair follows this route automatically. At the end of the route, the wheelchair provides the option to return to the exposition of DFKI. Note that i avoids (and circumnavigates) other visitors.
